* How to host a closing exhibition
What do ppl do with all their new free time?
Month Offline is not just about what we're saying no to, but what we're inviting in. we always ask participants to consider choosing an Offtime Outlet for the month.
how might they want to spend their newfound free time? this is a permission slip to do that thing they've always wanted to do. keep it low-stakes and low-pressure! Offtime outlets come in many different shapes and sizes (including napping and spending more time with the kids). set aside some time to workshop ideas at each MO meetup.
What's a community exhibition?
the og Month Offline cohorts ended with a phone-free exhibition where participants shared their offtime projects with friends, family, and neighbors.
it's important to wrap things up with a public event so that ur cohort sparks a community conversation and more ppl are invited 2 join the attention liberation movement.
the goal is not to isolate participants in insular flip phone clubs, but to make our neighborhoods more enriching than our screens.
the exhibition feels like a cross between a science fair, an open mic, and an art gallery.
spread the word by printing invitations and submitting to local newspapers or community calendars.
set up tables where ppl can showcase their projects. invite 2-3 participants to share their experience during a ~20min panel and give guests plenty of time to ask their own questions. it's always a good time to listen to the trials and triumphs from the month-long challenge.
ppl leave feeling inspired reconsider their relationship to digital media and maybe even join a future MO cohort. find a way to collect contact information so u can follow up with guests after the event and grow ur scene!
